eMusic Crosses One Million Song Threshold

Independent online music retailer eMusic has recently added its one-millionth track, part of a quickly growing catalog. Each eMusic track is in an open MP3 format, offering a convenient counterweight to DRM-protected stores like iTunes, Napster and MSN Music. "No other online digital music service has one-million iPod-compatible MP3s," said David Pakman, CEO of eMusic. The one-millionth addition is a live version of the Pixies classic "Here Comes Your Man," prompting eMusic to celebrate by declaring it "Pixies Week". eMusic is owned by Dimensional Associates, the private equity arm of JDS Capital.
